🕍 About Old World Village

Located at 7561 Center Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA, Old World Village was built by Josef and Dolores Bischof in 1978 to resemble Oberammergau, a storybook Bavarian village nestled in the Alps of Germany.

Oberammergau’s history dates back over 1,000 years and is world-famous for its Passion Play, first performed in 1634 after villagers made a vow during the bubonic plague. The tradition continues every decade, showcasing the community’s deep cultural and spiritual roots.

Inspired by this enduring spirit, the Bischof family recreated its charm here in Southern California — preserving European architecture, craftsmanship, and hospitality for generations to enjoy. Today, Old World’s BiergartenDeli, Bakery, MarketChurch, and Dirndl & Lederhosen shops remain family-run and dedicated to celebrating the rich tapestry of European culture, food, music, and tradition. Surrounding these family-operated establishments, the remainder of the Village is made up of a variety of individually owned shops, eateries, and studios, each adding their own unique touch to the vibrant community that makes Old World Village so special.
